Caramoan, A Must-Visit Utopia In the Philippines

Tucked away in the farthermost coast of the province of Camarines Sur, this isolated archipelago is by far a perfect paradigm of an unspoiled tropical utopia in Southeast Asia.Classified as a peninsular Filipino town, Caramoan is made up of handful islets and islands that are all endowed with lush coastal mountains, deep blue aquamarine waters, fine white sands, caves, lagoons and striking limestone cliffs.

Looking for an extraordinary retreat in the Philippines? Perhaps, you should plan a trip to Caramoan, or also referred Caramoan Peninsula.

A world famous retreat

Just because it is secluded, it doesn’t mean the island isn’t well-known. While most Filipinos don’t know much about this gem, Caramoan has been luring avid explorers and wanderers from India, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Serbia, Bulgaria, Israel, France and the United States. Trust me, this destination is quite known in international lands.

This exotic sanctuary is pretty isolated from the rest of the province, which is why most Filipino travel junkies consider it as a hidden gem that has yet to be exploited by the tourism industry. But, the archipelago is fast becoming a sought-after destination, thanks to its splendor, and untamed natural beauty.

Of course, this archipelago was also made famous by the media exposure granted by the global hit reality television show franchise known as “Survivor”. As a matter of fact, it has been a host to several Survivor editions and seasons, including a couple of seasons from the US, and one from the Indian edition.

Caromoan has also received a ton of accolades from travel magazines and websites. CNNGo, for one, has named it as one of the 10 best beaches and islands in the entire Philippines.

Things to do

To be honest, there aren’t a lot of things to do in Caramoan due to its remoteness and shortness of facilities. Still, it is a fantastic island destination that can take you into a state of pure bliss.

Here, you get a chance to enjoy spine-tingling outdoor adventures, such as caving, rock climbing, kayaking, scuba diving, and snorkeling. What’s more, you can take pleasure in swimming on its crystal clear waters, or sun bathing on its fine white sand beaches.

Island hopping

Caramoan is, for sure, an idyllic haven for people who are fond of island hopping. As an archipelago, it is home to ten gorgeous islands where you can drop by, and enjoy its grandeur.

Here are the ten islands that are loved by island hopping voyagers in this destination:

• Gota Beach – Dubbed as Caramoan’s main attraction, Gota beach has a myriad of delights to offer to its visitors.

• Matukad Island – It has rugged limestone cliffs, a tropical forest and beautiful fine white sands.

• Lahos Island – It has white sands with a pair of large rocks that disappear during the high tide.

• Lahuy Island- The island boasts a couple of stunning beaches, namely the Bugtong Beach and Nipa Beach.

• Malarad Island – A visit here lets you discover Tayak Beach, a lovely pebbled coral beach. Plus, it is a host to the Tayak Lagoon.

• Sabitang Laya Island – A great island for rock climbing escapades as well as snorkeling and beach activities.

• Cotivas Island – An island blessed with a lush tropical backdrop, virgin ocean waters and white sand bars.

• Guinahuan Island – Home to the Liwan Beach, a sandbar that magically appears during low tide. Likewise, it has a colorful marine life that will give you an unforgettable scuba diving and snorkeling experience.

When to visit Caramoan and Where to stay

As far as possible, try not to visit it during October to January. Since the region is basically a pathway of cyclones and storms, the northeast monsoon will prevail during these months, causing dangerous and large sea waves. To me, the safest and best time to visit Caramoan is from February to June.

Caramoan has a slew of inns and hotels to offer to travelers who prefer to stay indoors. But, if you want to add an extra element of adventure and excitement to your trip, you should try camping in one of the islands of archipelago. Besides, it is an economical and fun way to experience this Eden.
