New Year Celebrations

Some places celebrate it more, some places celebrate it less, but New Year is still a big day everywhere that should be enjoyed with your friends, family or by yourself even when you're in a foreign country.

But when the clock strikes zero, you’ll surely want to be in the hottest spots to greet the year with a good show.

With that in mind, here are some great suggestions for your exciting New Year celebrations:

The Canadian New Year’s Eve is usually spent with family and friends whenever possible, in a social party atmosphere at a pre-planned destination. Drinks, food and dancing set the rhythm to the party, and when the clock strikes zero midnight kisses and fireworks rule the place.

After that, the dancing and drinking resumes until morning, or whenever the last person standing leaves. Besides the good old social party, amazing options include ski resorts and spas, where all your personal needs can be taken care of while you enjoy a wonderful display of fireworks at the mountains.

Tip: If you’re up for a beautiful light, colors and nature show, head down to the Niagara falls on the 31st. You won’t regret it.

There are many ways to celebrate New Year in America, but few are as universal as the Times Square’s ball drop, followed by millions in person and on the TV alike. On the last minute of the soon-to-be old year, the crystal ball is lowered to then rise and hit the top exactly at the start of the New Year.

If you aren’t a fan of the crowds or the TV screens, other beautiful shows are available: you can take a magical trip down to Orlando’s Disneyland, light up like never before and drop by Las Vegas, relax at a luau in Honolulu, surrender to the drinks and boogie of New Orleans... the list is practically endless.

Tip: For those after a warm New Year filled with great cocktails and a friendly atmosphere, San Juan (Puerto Rico) was made for you! During New Year’s Eve people gather to watch the fireworks, complemented by Auld Lang Syne sang in Spanish.

While names like Amsterdam attract partygoers from all around the world without trying, Iceland is where the gold really is. Reykjavik, already famous for its nightlife, knows how to pull off a great night. In each quarter of the city, the people meet at a bonfire to celebrate the new year and watch the numerous fireworks displays happening all over the place.

After that, the party escalates as people head downtown for one of the hottest nightlife days ever. Live music is granted until 5AM.

Tip: This year, skip the usual ‘boring’ Western European destinations and hit Iceland instead. You won’t regret it!

This one goes out especially for those married with children. With a stunning 8-minute musical fireworks display. Additionally, Universal Studios Singapore is open up to 1AM on that day: this way you can enjoy new year with a little thrill added to it, and your kids won’t mind it at all.

Tip: Another destination with warm weather, it can be a nice break from Thailand, Japan and other usual Asian destinations. Smaller crowds and higher availability make Singapore a traveler’s dream.
