Volcanoes: Impressive and Beautiful Nature

They are a majestic destructive natural force which just seems to draw us in and amazes with its beauty while it’s calm and scares us when it erupts. A lot of volcanoes are famous for their disasters, but most importantly for their unique beauty.

Eyjafjallajokull, Iceland

The volcano whose eruption paused the world of flying and made everyone stop and wonder on how much we depend from planes. The volcano behind the disaster and thousands of missed flights and disrupted schedules.

Also the one with a lengthy name which is fun to remember. It is currently covered by an ice cap, but bear in mind that it is still an active volcano which is fresh in memory.

Stromboli, Italy

This volcano is very visible so you will be able to see it’s perfect cone shape from many locations and it has quite a dramatic effect during the entire day. Just bear in mind that to get close to it you will need energy and patience to do a full three hour climb, which is worth it, but requires a lot of work.

It is also active so be prepared for loud noises, ash and the volcano to spit out rocks your way. It is not harmful or dangerous in any way, but can be a bit scary.

Mount Fuji, Japan

Also a very famous volcano even if the last time it had erupted had been pretty much over 300 years ago. It is a very popular location around the world with over 300,000 people who have climbed it and the next one can surely be you.

Summer is still regarded as the safest time to do this, so if you are planning to visit Japan or nearby in the summer, mount Fuji with its picturesque locations is surely something to check!

Nisyros, Greece

Greece has a lot of nature gems to offer and it has it’s own beautiful volcano to offer which is a must see to any nature or volcano fan. The view is scenic and terrific. The volcano is active with spectacular boiling mud and smoking vents.

You will also go through villages on the rim of the volcano to reach the largest crater, Stefanos.

Furnas, São Miguel, Azores, Portugal

It’s actually more than just a volcano to the locals, it a free oven which can be used anytime. For adventurous tourists you may canoe, mountain bike, simply hike around or go with a horse in this wonderful crater. But what do the locals actually do with the volcano? Locals cook pots of meat and vegetable stew which you can try easily which had been put in the hot earth.

So you can also get a unique meal as well! In the Caldeiras (hot springs) you can also try corn which had been steamed in the geysers. Also don’t forget to wash it down with mineral water!
